Endometriosis
Endometriosis is condition that occurs when the tissue that normally lines your uterus - the endometrial layer - grows outside of the uterus. This tissue will thicken and bleed just as it would during the menstrual cycle. Endometriosis is often painful as the surrounding tissue becomes irritated causing pain in the abdomen. There are many factors that can lead to endometriosis including genetics, issues with menstrual flow, problems with immune system response, and hormonal changes. There are many treatment and management options available to be discussed with your physician that can help to ease endometriosis. Symptoms of endometriosis can appear differently for each individual and may occur during monthly menstrual cycle or may appear in the middle of each cycle.
Common symptoms of endometriosis:
Painful periods and cramping
Lower back or abdominal pain
Chronic pelvic pain
Pain during or after sexual intercourse
Painful bowel movements and urination
